The Best Summer Getaways in Missouri
Summer is the perfect time to take a trip and explore all the great things our state has to offer. No matter what sort of adventure you’re seeking, Missouri has something to offer. While there are many amazing places to experience, here are 5 of the best summer getaways in Missouri:
Lake of the Ozarks
Centrally located, Lake of the Ozarks is a great place for people from all over Missouri to meet in the middle — literally. Named USA Today’s 2016 Best Recreational Lake, Lake of the Ozarks has something for just about everyone. Fine dining, relaxing spas, invigorating ways to experience nature, historical landmarks are all close by. And, for families traveling on a budget, don’t miss out on its recommended 10 Free Things.
Cuivre River State Park
If you want to stay close to Lincoln County, look no farther than Cuivre River State Park just outside of Troy and Moscow MIlls. (Most of Missouri’s 56 state parks are within 3-4 hours of Moscow Mills.) The park is one of the largest in the Missouri, where you can hike, swim, boat, fish, or observe wildlife. For horse lovers, there is also an equestrian trail.
Wine Trails
Experience one or more of Missouri’s famous wine trails this summer, and see what all the buzz is about. According to Missouri Wine, the state has more than 130 wineries grouped into 11 wine trails. Each trail boasts its own unique views, wineries and experience. Visit https://missouriwine.org/wineries/wine-trails for details.
St. Charles
There are many towns in Missouri full of charm and history, including St. Charles. From its Sestercentennial Festival (celebrating the town’s 250th birthday party) to concerts to art, music and more, there are plenty of events. No matter what is going on, this river city always has plenty of shopping, dining and ways to experience history. Whether you’re looking for an intimate bed and breakfast, top-notch hotel or a camping spot to commune with nature, St. Charles has options for all kinds.
Branson
One of Missouri’s more famous destinations, Branson is the perfect spot for a summer getaway. Perhaps most famous for its world-class music shows, the city also features museums, outdoor recreation and historic experiences for everyone. Visit the Branson Scenic Railway, take a zipline, visit the Butterfly Palace and Rainforest Adventure, take a lake cruise, or marvel at exotic animals at the National Tiger Sanctuary. Families can visit the World’s Largest Toy Museum or see if they’re brave enough to try the slides at White Water park.
